EU as Global Actor

The Swedish International Programme Office for Education and Training invites to a European conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The conference, free of charge, is an international event in association with the Swedish Presidency of the European Union. The conference will be held in the Lund, Sweden on 28-29 September 2009 with the title ‘EU as Global Actor – meeting global challenges through creativity and innovation in local education’.

2010 to be the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion

79 million people in the European Union – or 16% of the population – currently live at risk of poverty. This violates EU principles of solidarity and social justice. In response, the European Commission has designated 2010 as the "European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion". The 2010 European Year aims to reach EU citizens and all public, social and economic stakeholders.

Bridges over the Sea

For the fourth time young people and civil servants all over the Baltic Sea Region will get together to discuss the past, present and most of all the future of the Baltic Sea Region. The 4th UBC Youth Conference will be hosted by the city of Kristiansand in the south of Norway on 22-25 September 2009.

Seniors in Action

A European project titled “Seniors in Action” is an endeavour which manages to engage seniors over 55 years old who have a special capacity (honey producers, organic farmers, mathematicians, poets, chess players, painters, etc.) and to make them more active as informal educators for pupils. The project runs in the framework of the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme, sub-programme Grundtvig.

A strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training ('ET 2020')

On 12 May the Council of the European Union adopted a new strategic framework for co-operation between EU Member States to reform their education and training systems ('ET 2020'). To us working as professionals in Europe, it is important to have knowledge of this European strategy and vision. The conclusions identify both immediate priorities for 2009-11 and long-term challenges for the decade ahead. The tools used to meet them include new education and training benchmarks for monitoring progress across Europe.

Effe Conference: Creativity Genesis

On 12-14 June 2009 in Witten, Germany, EFFE - the European Forum for Freedom in Education - organises an innovative in-service training event for teachers, teacher trainees, educationalists and policy makers. The first international teachers' conference 'Inspiring Climate Education ICE09' will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark on 12-14 October 2009. The conference targets secondary school teachers from all over the world.

European Gold Award Winner 2009: The Learning Teacher Network!

At an award ceremony in Prague, the Czech Republic, on 7 May the Learning Teacher Network was winner of the European Award for Lifelong Learning in Creativity and Innovation. The network received the gold prize for being best project in the Comenius programme.
