High level group to focus on excellence in teaching

Higher education is crucial for developing the knowledge and skills that Europe needs to compete in the world economy, but Member States are not investing enough to modernise their higher education systems. A new High Level Group on the Modernisation of Higher Education, launched by the European Commission today, will address this issue as part of a comprehensive three-year review of the sector across the European Union.

The 7th Edition of the Planetworkshops’ Global Conference

Almost 900 actors involved in change for a sustainable society (opinion leaders, CEOs, governments officials, researchers, NGOs, intellectuals, thinkers, artistes, experts, religious, media and civil society representatives) will gather in Evian, France on 24-26 September 2012 for the 7th Edition of the Planetworkshops’ Global Conference in order to co-construct a common thinking and to face the big challenges of our time.

European Day of Languages 26 September 2012

Following the success of the European Year of Languages in 2001, the Council of Europe declared a European Day of Languages to be celebrated on 26th of September each year. The Committee recommended that the Day be organised in a decentralised and flexible manner according to the wishes and resources of member states, which would thus enable them to better define their own approaches.

Establishment of the new network Polar Educators International

As a result of the 2012 International Polar Year (IPY) Conference that was held in Montreal, Canada in April 2012 (www.ipy2012montreal.ca), a new network has been created: Polar Educators International - a global professional network for those that educate in, for, and about the Polar Regions.

Monitoring and Evaluation Report on the UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development
