Bringing Europe into the Foreign Language Classroom
The REAL2 project brings together language teachers from all over Europe to a seminar in the picturesque Bavarian university town of Augsburg, Germany on 15-18 September 2010 to explore the topic ‘Bringing Europe into the Foreign Language Classroom’.
This REAL event is hosted by the Gesamtverband Moderne Fremdsprachen (GMF) – the German umbrella federation of language teacher associations. Within the REAL seminar, participants will have the chance to take part in workshops run by language specialists (Michael Byram, Daniel Coste, Christoph Edelhoff, Friederike Klippel, Henny Roenneper, Konrad Schröder and Dorothea Spaniel-Weise) whilst also being able to attend plenary talks given by internationally renowned speakers (Friederike Klippel, Michel Candelier, Hermann Funk, Daniel Coste, Michael Byram). Interpreting will be provided, so knowledge of German is not a prerequisite for attending.
A few places at the seminar are still left, wherefore registering via the REAL website is possible.
The REAL2 project, co-funded by the European Commission (Lifelong Learning Programme), is led by a core group of eight associations. In the driving seat, CIEP - French "établissement public" for international matters in the field of education - is managing the project, and as a co-pilot the UK Association for Language Learning (ALL), is taking an overview from an association perspective.
The ultimate aim of the REAL2 project is to create a vibrant and dynamic umbrella organisation, with legal status, under which many kinds of associations – large, small, monolingual, multilingual, representing not only the "big" languages of Europe, but also the rich variety of languages to be found within our borders – can meet and find ways to motivate learners, inspire teachers, improve professional development opportunities and make a real contribution to a more plurilingual Europe.
