Grundtvig workshop in Turkey on the "Cuisine of Cultures" - for free

The Cookery Department at the University of Gaziantep, Turkey, invites to a Grundtvig Workshop “Cuisine of Cultures” in Gaziantep, Turkey on October 11-18, 2010. Because of EU funding, the workshop is for free (!) and also all participants’ travel costs are reimbursed by the university. Gaziantep is the 6th largest city and the “gastronomic capital” of Turkey.

Erasmus: Record numbers of students receive EU funding to study or train abroad

More students than ever went abroad for studies and company placements with EU support through the Erasmus programme in 2008/09. According to new figures released in June, almost 200 000 higher education students received grants to study or train abroad. This represents an overall increase of 8.7% on the previous academic year and means that more than two million young Europeans have benefited from Erasmus funding since the programme's launch in 1987.

2011 to be the European Year of Volunteering

The European Commission has decided to propose that 2011 be designated the "European Year of Volunteering". The Council is expected to endorse this decision, after the European Parliament has been consulted, by the beginning of next year.

A new Survival Kit for European Projects

A new project management publication called “Survival Kit. Managing Multilateral Projects in the Lifelong Learning Programme” has been released. Many educators who got involved and sometimes entangled in EU-funded projects have felt the need for tailor-made project management support in their endeavour.

Commission encourages vocational education and training

On June 9th 2010 the European Commission presented its new vision for the future of vocational education and training. Vocational education and training is chosen by an average of around 50% of all students in upper secondary education. Traditional stereotypes remain the biggest challenge for gender equality in education

On June 7th 2010 the European Commission presented a new study which examines how gender inequality in education is addressed in European countries. It shows that gender differences persist in both choice of study and outcomes. The Commission study is based on the work the Eurydice network, which collects and analyses data on education systems. The study covers 29 countries (all EU Member States except Bulgaria, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway).

The FICTUP training materials for teachers describe in detail concrete pedagogical activities including ICT usage illustrating the thematic, objectives, pupils’ outputs, materials and tools used.

International conference "Partnership and participation for a sustainable tomorrow"

Comenius Regio Contact Seminar in Estonia

The Centre for Educational Programmes in Estonia organises a Comenius Regio Contact seminar in Tallinn, Estonia on 30 September to 3 October 2010. The aim of the contact seminar is to bring together key actors in education from regions who care for high quality education in the region and who are interested in setting up a Comenius Regio partnership with colleagues from different parts of Europe.
