Michelangelo: European Fine Arts Portal

The aim of the Michelangelo project is to provide art teachers and art students in secondary schools with an overview of European fine arts.

On the Michelangelo Portal art teachers and students find information on the most representative artists and artworks of five European countries in the last ten centuries. A search can be made choosing either the national criteria and/or to historical period criteria. On the Michelangelo Portal the Artist and Artworks section gives access to an alphabetical list of European artists and artworks.

For each one, a detailed description is available including a transnational comparative analysis, reference to bibliography and to selected web based resources. For every artist or artwork there is also a selection of images and documents that are described and analyzed. A database of reviews of web based sources for art teaching is also available. These are related to fine arts in the European countries involved in the Michelangelo project. Every review presents the art teaching source, evaluates it and provides a direct link to the online source described. The portal also contains an online course on the national arts of each project partner country.

The Michelangelo Project, promoted and coordinated by Pixel (Italy), in collaboration with universities and training centers for teachers of 4 other different European countries (England, Germany, Poland and Bulgaria), is funded by the Lifelong Learning Programme – Comenius sub programme.
