The Altsolem House: An online community for language learning

The ILLIMITED Project (Implementing Language Learning Materials to Increase Teachers Education Development), co-financed by the Leonardo da Vinci Programme, has developed an easy-to-use, flexible, and inexpensive e- and m-learning software for national language training in workplace settings. Its name is Altsolem House.

Altsolem House is an online community-based learning environment for language teachers in applied contexts, integrated in an adapted version of the Moodle learning management system. It is a place full of ideas for using e- and m-learning materials to enhance language teaching, accessible in English, German, Bulgarian, Latvian, Estonian, Spanish, and Italian.

It should be stressed that this is not a traditional e-learning platform. The platform has been developed for blended learning purposes, i.e. the combination of face-to-face teaching and use of e-learning, which has proven to be a more effective strategy how to make use of information and communication technologies in language learning (ICT).
