World Summit 2010 on Media for Children and Youth
Every three years is held a World Summit on Media for Children and Youth. The first summit was held in Melbourne in 1995, followed by London in 1998, Thessaloniki in 2001, Rio de Janeiro in 2004 and Johannesburg in 2007. Each world summit attracts between 2000 and 3000 professionals from all over the world, which makes it a substantial international event.
Quoting the World Summit Foundation: "World Summits are held every three years and provide a forum for producers, broadcasters and regulators of media, for children and other professionals and community leaders committed to the improvement of quality media for children."
The 2010 World Summit will be held in Karlstad, Sweden on June 14-18, 2010 with the title "Challenges in Young People's World of Communication". Individuals and corporations can participate or contribute in other ways. The summit puts forward three overall foci: Raising Quality in Children's Media; Developing Media Literacy Education; and Embracing Culture.
