Network initiatives

In 2006 the Learning Teacher Network delivered Ten Recommendations on the New Role of the Teacher to the European Commission and to the educational community.

The recommendations were one result of the initial three years of the life of the network and had the purpose of contributing to the policy-making in the EU Directorate General Education and Culture (DG EAC). The recommendations are available in the document Ten Recommendations (pdf).

Education is key

In recent time the network has taken action to contribute to the growth of knowledge and to promote school actions within the United Nation’s Decade for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) 2005-2014.

By the United Nations, UNESCO and the European Union, education is given the key role when society aims to reach the Millennium goals and the imperative goals of a sustainable world as agreed by the global community.

By highlighting these issues and providing venues for information and discussion on this theme, the network plays a role in the implementation of the three dimensions of Education for sustainable development: the ecological, the democratic/ social and the economic perspectives.
